Description

Since I returned from my visit to my site in Chile. I persisted in balancing the collimation to obtain a light cone in the axis of the camera. It's not finished yet but I wanted to see what the collimation work done with Skywave had given on a fairly standard target but which I had never yet done with this instrument. I am not disappointed!

Composition LHaRGB. Many thanks to Martin Dufour for providing me with his Luminance data on the NGC 3628 star tail!

The "Leo triplet" is a small group of galaxies, composed mainly of M65, M66 and NGC 3628. It is a fairly popular target among amateurs due to the proximity of these beautiful galaxies in the constellation of Leo which is an area of incredible richness for lovers of deep skies. In short, we easily find a large number of galaxies just on this image.

All located around 35 million light-years away, the galaxies M65, M66 and NGC 3628 are relatively similar in size and brightness. Only NGC 3628 stands out a little, being slightly larger but less bright than its two neighbors. Spiral structure for M65 and NGC 3628, barred spiral for M66 with a bluish cast that suggests strong star creation activity, a particularly impressive edge view for NGC 3628 with its clearly visible dust bands and its long tail of stars, one of its peculiarities . This phenomenon is explained by past gravitational interactions with M66 and possibly also with M65.

Revision D: On this revision, I reworked the color balance with Luminance since I realized that the result pushed too many bright colors and lacked contract.
